In 4ème at the Lycée Condorcet, a poor student in Latin, I took private lessons rue de la Coquillère at Les Halles in Paris with a marvelous professor with white hair and beard, a wise man, "Socrates".  Entranced, I couldn't stop watching him. I can still smell the snuff, the yellowed hairs of his beard, in the back of a dark dining room filled with books. A light passed through the room, it was that of a Rembrandt, his books looking like Hellenistic stones; I heard nothing of his lessons, I was watching the spectacle of life; everything was shapes, colors, enchantment, goodness: a dream that settled in me, a unique visual experience, a painting." - Jean Prévost -
